Traditional wired trailing cables are repeatedly pulled and strained as equipment moves over long-term operation, making them prone to damage and breakage. This leads to high operation & maintenance costs and heavy production downtime losses. Conventional commercial Wi-Fi features poor anti-interference performance and laggy roaming handover, which makes it incapable of supporting industrial control services. Operator public 5G networks suffer from bandwidth contention, unstable latency and insufficient security, rendering them unsuitable for private production networks.
This solution leverages three categories of wireless technologies from Guoxin Longxin: Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN), Wireless Metropolitan Area Network (WMAN) and Wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN). The covered wireless products and technologies include the iMAX wireless metropolitan network, multi-mode MESH, integrated communication-sensing, millimeter-wave networks, leaky waveguide tubes, medium & high-frequency leaky coaxial cables, etc. The applicable scenarios cover common services such as RCMS equipment management & control, high-definition surveillance, remote network management, remote operation and unmanned work, as well as special intelligent scenarios including anti-collision protection, intelligent spreaders, electronic fencing, digital twins and tandem lifting with two cranes.
The overall design adheres to the principles of independent private network, service isolation, redundant hot standby and stability priority, to meet communication demands for intelligent and unmanned upgrading of both new and existing cranes.
II. Wireless Product Portfolio and Technical Selection
(1) Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN): Wi-Fi Terminal Access Layer
As an extension of local area networks, WLAN mainly provides internet access for edge intelligent terminals, and does not carry core industrial data such as equipment control and safety monitoring. It delivers network connectivity for on-site inspection tablets, smartphones, RFID scanners and office PCs to fulfill lightweight demands including data collection, account entry and on-site office work. Its core applied technologies and products include Wi-Fi APs and wireless bridges.

A single unit delivers wide coverage, satisfying the construction of Wi-Fi coverage systems for large-scale yards and factory zones. Separate backhaul optical cables are not required; data can be automatically transmitted back via the wireless metropolitan network. It effectively cuts construction workload and O&M costs with simple and stable networking, ideal for low-cost networking in wide-area scenarios.
BreezeAIR Industrial-Grade Wireless Bridge: Adopts military-grade outdoor industrial design with IP67 high-level protection. It withstands extreme environments including salt spray corrosion, high & low temperatures, heavy dust, thunderstorms and intense sunlight exposure, perfectly fitting harsh deployment positions such as crane high elevations and open-air yards.

Scenarios & Model Selection:For local Wi-Fi coverage of cranes, adopt the iMAX-ACG600 dual-mode Wi-Fi gateway. For crane networking scenarios without remote control functions, with low requirements on reliability and security yet tight cost constraints, the BreezeAIR wireless bridge solution is applicable.(2) Wireless Metropolitan Area Network (WMAN): Construction of High-Reliability Private Networks for Cranes
The iMAX wireless MAN system serves as the core solution for building private networks of crane intelligent control systems. It supports independent dedicated networking without reliance on operator base stations, eliminating bandwidth contention and public network interference.
The system supports multiple networking modes including point-to-point, point-to-multipoint, VRRP hot standby, routed ring networks and centerless MESH mesh networks. Its maximum line-of-sight transmission distance reaches 50 kilometers, with a single base station coverage radius up to 10 kilometers (the typical communication radius of base stations for mobile crane scenarios is 5 kilometers), making it ideal for clustered crane networking in large ports, factories and industrial parks.

(3) Wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN): Networking for Off-Site Remote Operation & Maintenance
WWAN addresses remote interconnection across factories and regions, applicable to group-wide multi-site management, remote equipment maintenance by manufacturers, cloud data synchronization and other scenarios.
The solution adopts hardware VPN + SD-CX cloud switching technology to build encrypted virtual private networks over public networks. It replaces costly operator leased lines, enables secure communication between off-site worksites, group cloud platforms and headquarters machine rooms, cuts networking costs and improves the efficiency of remote maintenance.
- iMWB-5GW1000 5G Multi-Mode Gateway: Compatible with SA/NSA dual-mode 5G and Wi-Fi 6, acting as an edge VPN access device. It connects to the local iMAX private network and transmits encrypted data to the cloud via 5G public network, supporting remote equipment debugging, fault troubleshooting and status monitoring at off-site locations.
- iMAX-4GW300 Dual-Mode Gateway: Integrates the iMAX private network and 4G LTE network with high cost performance, suitable for regular remote management of scattered cranes across multiple factories of small and medium-sized enterprises.

The entire wide area network adopts hardware-level IPSec and L2TP tunnel encryption. The private network is logically isolated from the Internet, which effectively defends against external network attacks and data tampering, ensuring secure and stable off-site operation and maintenance.

III. Solutions for Conventional Crane Service Scenarios
(1) Networking for RCMS Crane Remote Control & Management System
RCMS is a standard core system equipped on cranes, which mainly collects equipment PLC operating parameters, fault codes, energy consumption data and maintenance records, imposing strict requirements on network real-time performance and stability.
Guoxin’s solution adopts a point-to-multipoint converged networking architecture of “central base station + on-site CPE”. iMAX backbone base stations are deployed in central control rooms or on high lighting poles, with multiple base stations (BS) arranged to deliver overlapping cross coverage across operation zones. Each crane is equipped with a dedicated dual-mode wireless CPE terminal connected to the control cabinet to realize highly reliable networking.

Dual omnidirectional antennas or even four omnidirectional antennas can be installed on portal cranes to completely eliminate signal blockage caused by equipment rotation. RCMS data is assigned to an independent VLAN to achieve isolation from other service traffic. Routing ring networking enables seamless roaming and automatic failover for devices. If base stations are customized with integrated 4G/5G wireless modules, they can also support remote operation & maintenance, fault troubleshooting and equipment status monitoring.
Our official video account shares RCMS networking cases of dozens of cranes at major domestic ports as well as overseas RCMS projects, which you may search and view on your own.
