Case Sharing of Wireless Private Network for Smart Petroleum

Digitalization in the petroleum industry is the cornerstone of modernization for oil and gas production, storage and transportation. The construction of smart petroleum systems is not only a guarantee for safe and efficient production, but also the foundation for the technological upgrading and modernization of traditional energy. Smart petroleum covers numerous application scenarios, and its fundamental and primary construction challenge is networking.
Due to the particularity of the petroleum and petrochemical industry, operations are often located in remote areas, with rural regions, mountainous areas, deserts and even offshore waters as typical terrains for oil production. In recent years, the difficulty of coordinating oil-land relations has increased (especially overseas where private land ownership prevails). Relying solely on optical fiber wired networks cannot meet the networking needs of numerous and scattered sites. How to ensure the reliability, security and stability of wireless networking has long plagued users and integrators in the petroleum industry, and Guoxin Longxin is here to solve this problem for you.
There is a wide variety of wireless technologies (public network 4G/5G, WiFi, data radio, etc.), with products of varying quality (low-quality and low-priced wireless bridges have eroded some users’ confidence in wireless solutions). There is an urgent need for high-bandwidth, low-latency, highly reliable, wide-coverage, secure and cost-effective wireless communication to serve as the “information highway” for oilfields, meeting the construction requirements of “Smart Oilfields” and “Digital Oilfields”.
Guoxin Longxin’s product portfolio spans three major technology categories (WLAN, WMAN, WWAN) and five major product lines (iMAX 5G Wireless Metropolitan Area Network (WMAN) Private Network System, Huanyou Low-Frequency MESH Mobile Communication System, FibeAIR High-Frequency & High-Bandwidth Microwave, iMWB 4G/5G Dual-Mode Wireless Gateway, and BreezeAir WiFi & Wireless Bridge Products). We are one of the few full-category wireless network system suppliers in China. Leveraging over 20 years of accumulated expertise in wireless application network technology and in-depth on-site experience in the petroleum and petrochemical industry, our projects have not only covered major oilfields across China, but also flourished in several renowned overseas oilfields. This case sharing is a summary and consolidation of our past wireless applications in the petroleum industry, intended to throw out a brick to attract jade and provide valuable reference for our extensive partners.

Case 1: Oil and Gas Field Development & Construction Scenario

At the development operation site of a renowned domestic oilfield on the banks of the Yellow River, the wireless private network is mainly applied to three core scenarios: smart wellsite construction, real-time drilling process monitoring and digital drilling platform. It undertakes the transmission of real-time large-capacity business data and high-definition video, including data from wellsite video surveillance systems, pumping unit intelligent control units, edge computing nodes, and environmental monitoring sensors (temperature, humidity, gas, etc.). These scenarios impose stringent requirements on the bandwidth and stability of backhaul links.
Guoxin Longxin’s iMAX WMAN Private Network System delivers ultra-high bandwidth of 600Mbps×N (multi-sector superposition) per base station, making it ideally suited as an edge aggregation and access system for oilfield production. Both base stations (BS) and customer premises equipment (CPE) support customizable single-mode/dual-mode configuration, with a maximum coverage radius of 30 kilometers. Featuring overlapping coverage + hot backup redundancy for high reliability, the system ensures fast, stable and secure transmission of large-capacity data and high-definition video for wellsite drilling platforms.
During the peak period of drilling and construction, the annual procurement volume of wireless private network systems for this oilfield exceeded 1,000 sets. According to incomplete statistics and estimates, after the oilfield entered a stable production phase, thousands of wireless systems are still in operation to quietly ensure the healthy and stable running of oil and gas production.

Case 2: Oil and Gas Production & Operation Scenario

Oil and gas production and operation mainly focus on scenarios such as intelligent control of pumping units, intelligent allocation of water injection wells and monitoring of oil and gas gathering and transportation, which are also the core applications of smart oilfields. Most oil and gas fields are located in remote rural areas, deserts and offshore waters. In such natural conditions, the cost of wireless networking is often only a fraction of that of wired optical fiber networks, or even just a small part of it. However, ordinary wireless equipment cannot meet the operational requirements of such harsh environments, mainly reflected in insufficient communication distance, inadequate link bandwidth, unreliable quality and stability, and incompatible networking features.
Wiring at oil and gas production sites is extremely difficult. Whether in plains, mountains or island areas, optical fiber cables are not only extremely expensive but also vulnerable to damage, making wireless transmission the mainstream solution. Oil production sites are often in harsh environments (extreme temperatures, thunderstorms, ice and snow, etc.) with poor transportation access. If the key indicators and quality of products fail to meet requirements and malfunctions occur frequently, it will not only affect the normal operation of the system, but also lead to a sharp rise in later operation and maintenance costs.
“Wireless bridges” based on WiFi technology are incomparable to the professional iMAX 5G Wireless Metropolitan Area Network (WMAN) communication system in terms of performance indicators such as communication distance, bandwidth stability and multi-service bearing, as well as performance, quality and reliability. These are the most important reasons why numerous petroleum industry users choose Guoxin Longxin’s iMAX WMAN system. Below are two application cases of Guoxin Longxin in major oilfields in southern and northern China respectively.
Network Deployment at the Southernmost Terrestrial Oilfield Production Site in China
At the production site of China’s southernmost oilfield, high temperatures and heavy rainfall are the norm, and tall trees causing signal obstruction are a common issue. Guoxin Longxin’s wireless private network system boasts strong non-line-of-sight capability and is immune to harsh weather and sea breeze corrosion. The entire system has operated reliably, safely and stably for many years, strongly safeguarding the efficient oil and gas production of the oilfield.
Network Deployment at the High-Yield Oilfield Production Site in Northwest China
In the desert and sandy areas of Northwest China, the oilfield production environment is extremely harsh. The weather is dry, with frequent strong winds and sandstorms. Extreme cold in winter and scorching heat in summer alternately test the quality and technical strength of the wireless metropolitan area network (WMAN) private network system. For years, our wireless private network system has been adopted in numerous projects and has earned high praise in comparisons with different transmission solutions and products.

Case 3: Oil and Gas Pipeline Health, Safety and Environmental Protection Scenario

This scenario primarily supports the transmission of AI high-definition video and operation data for three core applications: precision positioning for personnel safety management, environmental monitoring and emergency response, and intelligent video analysis—including atmospheric and water quality detection, emergency command, behavior and status recognition, and operation supervision.
The following is a real-world case of the oil and gas pipeline health, safety and environmental protection scenario in Northwest China:
Guoxin Longxin’s products cover a wide range of wireless frequency bands from 150MHz to 80GHz, including wireless communication and network systems operating on low, medium and high frequency spectrums. Each system is tailored to specific application scenarios (e.g., Huanyou Low-Frequency MESH System is ideal for emergency communication scenarios). We are capable of customizing efficient, stable and secure wireless communication or private network solutions for the oilfield industry, helping operators improve operational efficiency and economic benefits, and meeting the digital and intelligent networking needs of end users.

Case 4: Offshore Oil and Gas Field Production Scenario

Production and operation of nearshore or offshore oil and gas fields are mainly concentrated on offshore platforms. Maritime communication faces numerous challenges, such as the impact of surface water on wireless stability and the test of ultra-long transmission distance on the bandwidth of wireless systems.
Leveraging the technical advantages of Guoxin Longxin’s wireless private network system (e.g., the diversity antenna design of the FibeAIR Microwave System), we can better adapt to the complexity and particularity of the marine environment, providing stable and reliable support for wellsite communication in offshore oilfields. Transmission capacity is available in multiple bandwidth options from 100Mbps to 10Gbps, the multi-point coverage radius can reach 30 kilometers, and the effective transmission distance of a single site exceeds 100 kilometers.
The above cases are real-world applications at oil production sites in the Bohai Bay. In fact, Guoxin Longxin’s wireless technologies not only enable networking for operation platforms, but also simultaneously support mobile communication on-the-move for floating storage oil tankers, operation tugboats, and even helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). With the in-depth advancement of AI technology, Guoxin Longxin’s wireless private network system can provide reliable network support for the construction of a self-perception, self-decision-making and self-execution intelligent oilfield ecosystem for offshore oilfields.

Case 5: Overseas Desert Oil and Gas Field Production Scenario

Driven by China’s huge oil and gas demand, it has become an irresistible trend for China’s oil production and service enterprises to expand overseas. Overseas oil and gas production is often confronted with harsher operating environments than domestic ones. This case presents a real application at an oilfield production site in the Middle East in 2025.
The client previously adopted wireless bridges, but due to technical and product limitations, first, the bridges failed to operate normally under frequent severe sandstorms, seriously disrupting operations; second, most wireless bridges are consumer-grade products whose quality cannot withstand extreme high temperatures at all, and the labor cost for troubleshooting in sparsely populated vast areas often exceeds the cost of the equipment itself. Therefore, only a technologically advanced and reliably built wireless private network system can meet the operational requirements.
Guoxin Longxin’s iMAX Wireless Metropolitan Area Network (WMAN) system can withstand extreme cold of -50℃ and extreme heat of 85℃, maintaining long-term stable and efficient operation; even in sandstorm-prone environments, the equipment can run stably for several consecutive years.
This project has an additional special requirement: as sandstorms severely impair wireless communication, conventional single-link wireless bridges cannot satisfy the network stability demands of oilfield operation systems. Leveraging the Multi-Link Data Mirroring (MLDM) technology of the iMAX WMAN system, we innovatively adopted a dual-link design, which not only drastically reduces the impact of sandstorms on network packet loss and latency, but also enhances the overall reliability of the system. For higher network resilience requirements, we can also deploy the high-reliability VRRP Virtual Hot Standby Routing technology to achieve a highly robust ring network + hot standby architecture. The performance of these technologies has earned high praise from the client.

Case 6: Oil & Gas Production Fracturing Operation Scenario

After long-term exploration and exploitation, the reserves of conventional easily extractable oil have been declining gradually, posing numerous challenges to oil exploration and production. Against this backdrop, oil fracturing technology emerged as an effective stimulation measure and has played an extremely critical role in the petroleum industry. It can significantly boost oil well production and increase recoverable reserves of oil and gas fields, bearing irreplaceable significance for safeguarding global energy supply. The so-called shale gas revolution that drove the surging U.S. oil production stemmed from the advancement and maturity of fracturing technology.
China’s shale oil/gas production scale has been rising year by year. A typical example is the Fuling Shale Gas Field, with total resource reserves of 2.1 trillion cubic meters and proven geological reserves exceeding 1 trillion cubic meters cumulatively. It is China’s first large-scale shale gas field and the world’s largest shale gas field outside North America.
Fracturing operations rely on core specialized equipment including fracturing trucks, sand mixer trucks and instrument trucks. Guoxin Longxin is the first domestic company to launch a networking solution for fracturing trucks. Our cases are not only deployed at fracturing sites across multiple domestic regions, but also successfully implemented in overseas fracturing operations, contributing to China’s shale gas revolution.

Based on the operational and networking scheduling requirements of fracturing trucks, video transmission is only a standard feature. In the future, vehicle positioning, attitude perception and real-time networking will be the key to the digitalization, intellectualization and even unmanned operation of fracturing trucks.Guoxin Longxin can not only provide 4G/5G public network (VPN virtual private network) and iMAX metropolitan area network (MAN) private network dual-mode access for the internet of vehicles (IoV) at fracturing sites, but also deliver integrated communication and perception access. On the basis of reliable networking, it simultaneously provides vehicle positioning and attitude perception to support intelligent vehicle management and scheduling. On this foundation, through data accumulation and deep learning & training of AI large models, the intellectualization and unmanned operation of fracturing sites will be achievable in the future.
